Villanueva de la Concepción is a small inland village in Málaga province, sitting directly below the El Torcal de Antequera massif. Most visitors come for El Torcal itself: a karst limestone plateau with weathered rock formations, marked walking routes (the Ruta Verde and Ruta Amarilla) and a visitor centre reached by the A-7075 climbing out of the village. Hikers, climbers and day-trippers arrive year-round, with spring and autumn the most comfortable seasons; summer heat is intense on the exposed rock. The village itself is quiet, agricultural and Spanish rather than touristy, with a handful of bars around the church and olive groves on the surrounding slopes. It became an independent municipality only in 2009, having previously been part of Antequera just to the north.

The route leaves the airport and joins the A-45 motorway heading north away from the coast, climbing steadily through the hills behind Málaga past Casabermeja. After roughly half an hour of easy dual-carriageway driving you exit onto local roads (the MA-3404 corridor) that wind the last stretch into Villanueva de la Concepción. The change is noticeable: the coastal traffic gives way to open countryside, olive terraces and the grey wall of El Torcal rising ahead. The final kilometres are single-carriageway with curves and gradients rather than motorway, so the last part of the journey is slower than the mileage suggests. Total driving time is usually around 45 minutes with light traffic, longer during summer weekends when day-trippers head for the natural park.

There is no direct public transport worth relying on from the airport to Villanueva de la Concepción, so a private transfer or car is the practical choice. If your real destination is the El Torcal visitor centre and upper car park, tell the driver in advance: the A-7075 above the village is narrow and the upper parking fills early on weekends and holidays, when access is sometimes managed by shuttle from lower down. Bring layers even in warm months, as the plateau is exposed and cooler than the coast. There are few shops, so buy supplies before leaving the village. If arriving after dark, note that the final roads are unlit and winding; confirm the exact address or accommodation entrance, as some rural houses lie on scattered lanes outside the village centre.
