The old quarter climbs steeply below the Ermita del Calvario, with narrow lanes and the Convento de los Capuchinos nearby. Day-trippers usually pair it with Grazalema or Zahara de la Sierra. Summer brings the local ferias; the surrounding natural park is busiest at Easter and in October.

The route leaves the airport on the coastal A-7, then turns inland. The usual approach climbs from the coast towards Ronda on the A-357 and A-367 corridor, crossing rolling farmland and the Serranía before Ronda, then follows the A-374 and A-373 down into the Sierra de Cádiz towards Ubrique. Expect roughly two hours. The first part is fast dual carriageway; the second half is mountain road with steady curves, particularly around the Grazalema park and on the final descent into the valley where Ubrique sits. Passengers prone to travel sickness should sit forward and keep water handy for the winding stretch. The scenery shifts from coast to open sierra, and the last kilometres wind past white hillside villages before the road drops into town.

Ubrique's old town is not car-friendly: the upper lanes are narrow, steep and often stepped, so a driver will drop you at the nearest accessible point rather than at every doorstep. Give your accommodation's exact street and, if it's high in the old quarter, mention it when booking so the drop-off can be planned. There is no rail service here, and public transport from the coast is slow and infrequent, which makes a direct transfer the practical choice. Bring layers even in summer — evenings in the sierra are cooler than on the coast. Stock up on anything you need before leaving Ronda if arriving late, as options thin out. If you plan to hike the Calzada Romana or into the Grazalema park, confirm any permit requirements in advance, as some trails are restricted.
