Triana is a small village in the Axarquía, part of the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, set in the farmland of the Río Vélez valley a short way inland from the coast. It sits among the subtropical plots the region is known for — avocado, mango and citrus — with the older houses clustered around the parish church and a handful of narrow streets. People who come here are usually visiting family, staying in a rented rural house, or basing themselves close to Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar's beaches without paying seafront prices. It's quieter than the resort strip, with everyday shops rather than tourist services, so most visitors combine it with trips into Vélez-Málaga's old town or down to the coast for restaurants and the beach.

The route runs east from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport on the A-7 motorway (Autovía del Mediterráneo), skirting Málaga city and then following the coast past Rincón de la Victoria, with the sea on one side for much of the way. After roughly 35 kilometres you leave the motorway near Torre del Mar and turn inland toward Vélez-Málaga, then continue up the Vélez valley to Triana. The first three-quarters is fast, easy dual carriageway; the last stretch is ordinary two-lane road through agricultural land, gently climbing and with a few bends as you approach the village. Total time is usually around 45 minutes in normal traffic, though the airport-to-Málaga section can slow at peak commuting hours.

Give your driver a clear address or the name of your host's house, as Triana is small and several dwellings sit among scattered plots outside the built-up centre — GPS pins can land on a track rather than a door. The village streets are narrow, so for larger groups it helps to agree a drop-off point near the church or a wider corner rather than expecting the vehicle up a tight lane. There is no significant public transport direct from the airport, and taxis this far east are limited, which is why a pre-booked transfer makes sense. If you plan to explore beyond walking distance, arrange a hire car separately, since Triana itself has few services and the beaches at Torre del Mar are a short but not walkable drive away.
