Torrenueva is a low-key residential stretch of Mijas Costa, sitting between Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas and next to the larger developments of Calahonda and Riviera del Sol. Its beach, Playa de Torrenueva, is a quiet sand-and-shingle strip backed by low apartment blocks and villas, with the old watchtower nearby that gives the area its name. Most people here are long-stay residents, second-home owners and families who want the coast without the crowds of central Fuengirola. Golfers use it as a base for Miraflores and Calanova courses just inland, and the coastal walking path towards La Cala passes right through. It's busiest in summer, calm and residential the rest of the year.

The route runs southwest along the coastal corridor. Most drivers take the AP-7 toll motorway or the parallel A-7 free road past Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. It's an easy, mostly motorway drive of around 30 to 35 minutes in normal traffic, with the sea on your left for much of the way. The final approach leaves the main road and drops down through the Mijas Costa developments, where the layout of Calahonda, Riviera del Sol and Torrenueva can be a maze of similar-looking streets and roundabouts. Traffic thickens noticeably in July and August and around Fuengirola's exits at rush hour, so allow extra time then.

Because Torrenueva blends into Calahonda and Riviera del Sol, the single most useful thing you can do is give your driver the exact urbanisation name, block or villa number, and a nearby landmark rather than just "Torrenueva". Many complexes have several entrances and gated access, and GPS often points to the wrong gate. Share a pin location and any gate code in advance. The area has few large supermarkets right on the beachfront, so if you're self-catering, note that the bigger shops are up towards the A-7. Public transport is limited here, so a pre-booked door-to-door transfer is far more convenient than relying on connections through Fuengirola.
