Torre del Mar is the main beach town of Vélez-Málaga, at the western edge of the Axarquía. It runs along a wide, dark-sand seafront backed by the Paseo de Larios, a long pedestrian promenade lined with chiringuitos, ice-cream shops and terraces. The white lighthouse (Faro de Torre del Mar) is the town's landmark. It draws mostly Spanish families and Andalusian day-trippers in July and August, plus northern European long-stay visitors in winter who prefer a working town to a resort. The September kite festival (Festival del Viento) fills the beach. It works well as a base for the Axarquía inland villages such as Cómpeta, Frigiliana and Vélez-Málaga's old quarter, and for the Caleta de Vélez marina just east, known for fresh fish and its fishing fleet.

The route heads east from the airport on the A-7 (Autovía del Mediterráneo), the coastal motorway that runs above the shoreline. It's dual carriageway almost the entire way, passing Rincón de la Victoria and Torre de Benagalbón, with the sea on one side and the foothills of the Axarquía on the other. There are no mountain passes or winding sections — the terrain stays flat and coastal. After roughly half an hour you take the Torre del Mar / Vélez-Málaga exit and drop down toward the seafront. The final stretch runs through the town's ordinary street grid rather than any old-town tangle, so the approach is straightforward. Expect around 35 minutes outside peak hours; summer weekends and the drive back into Málaga can add time.

Torre del Mar has almost no hotel garages, so tell the driver your street and cross-street rather than just the hotel name — many apartment blocks sit on similar-looking seafront streets. In July and August the Paseo de Larios and streets near the beach are pedestrianised or heavily restricted in the evenings, so ask to be set down a block inland. If you're continuing to Nerja, Frigiliana or the Caleta de Vélez marina, it's worth arranging that leg in advance, as local taxis can be scarce in high season. For late arrivals, note that supermarkets near the front close early; the 24-hour options are limited. Confirm your pickup point for the return trip when you're dropped off, since the one-way system near the seafront makes some corners hard to stop at.
