Tolox is a white village on the southern edge of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, declared a national park in 2021 for its pinsapo (Spanish fir) forests. Most visitors come for two reasons: the Balneario de Tolox, whose Fuente Amargosa waters are used for respiratory and airway treatments and draws returning guests through the warmer months, and the walking. Trails climb towards Torrecilla, the range's highest peak, and into the fir woodland above the village. The old core is a maze of steep, narrow lanes around the Iglesia de San Miguel, with the ruins of a Moorish castle above. Nearby you'll find Yunquera, Alozaina and El Burgo. Spring and autumn suit hikers; the spa season peaks in summer.

The route leaves the coast quickly. From the airport you join the A-7 briefly and then swing onto the A-357, the Málaga–Campillos road that runs through the Guadalhorce valley past Cártama and Pizarra. After roughly forty minutes of fast dual carriageway you turn off towards Coín and pick up the A-366, then the narrower A-7057 that climbs the final stretch into Tolox. Expect the last section to tighten and wind as you gain height, with olive and citrus groves giving way to sierra. The whole journey is around an hour, most of it motorway-standard, with only the final approach slow. Passengers heading straight into the village should be ready for very tight streets where a car often cannot reach the door.

Agree a precise drop-off point in advance. The old town's lanes are too narrow and steep for most vehicles, so drivers usually stop at the village entrance or a small square, and you may have a short walk uphill with luggage — pack light or bring a case you can carry. If you're booked into the Balneario de Tolox, confirm it is within its operating season, as it closes outside the warmer months. For hikers, buy supplies before leaving the Guadalhorce valley, since shops in the village are limited and keep short hours. Mountain conditions differ from the coast: evenings are cooler, and mobile coverage on the trails and higher roads can drop out. A booked transfer is far more reliable than trying to connect by bus, which is infrequent.
