This final section is the part passengers notice: a steady mountain ascent with long curves and switchbacks, gaining well over a thousand metres of altitude before reaching Pradollano. Total driving time is usually around two to two and a quarter hours in good conditions. In winter the upper A-395 can carry snow and ice, and traffic control points sometimes require chains or restrict access during heavy snowfall.
