Sierra de Yeguas is a small farming town in the northwest of Málaga province, surrounded by olive groves and cereal fields at the edge of the Antequera plain. It is not a tourist resort, so most arrivals are residents returning home, people visiting family, or travellers using it as a quiet base to reach the Fuente de Piedra lagoon, where flamingos gather in spring, and Campillos nearby. The town itself centres on the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario and a compact grid of low white streets. Day-trippers heading to El Torcal de Antequera or the archaeological dolmens sometimes pass through. Expect a working agricultural town rather than nightlife or beaches, busiest around local ferias in summer.

The route leaves the coast completely. From the airport you join the A-7 briefly, then the A-45 motorway climbing north through the Montes de Málaga corridor toward Antequera. This is fast dual carriageway for most of the way, with a noticeable rise in altitude as the coastal humidity gives way to open inland country. Near Antequera the road swings west along the A-384 towards Campillos, then a shorter regional road drops into Sierra de Yeguas. The final stretch is single-lane through flat farmland, not mountain hairpins. Total driving time is usually around 80 minutes depending on traffic leaving the airport. The scenery shifts clearly from coast to the Antequera plain, with El Torcal's rocky ridge visible to the south for part of the way.

Sierra de Yeguas has very limited public transport links to the airport, so a pre-booked door-to-door transfer avoids changing buses in Antequera or relying on infrequent regional services. Give the driver a clear street address or a landmark, as the town's narrow central streets can be hard to navigate by house number alone. If you plan to visit Fuente de Piedra to see the flamingos, come between roughly February and June, as the lagoon can dry out in high summer. There is no petrol station on every corner, so ask the driver to stop in Antequera or Campillos if you need cash, a pharmacy, or supplies. For an early flight, allow the full 80 minutes plus airport queues, since the A-45 can slow near Málaga at peak times.
