Sanlúcar La Mayor sits on the Aljarafe ridge about 18 km west of Seville, in the countryside heading toward Huelva. It is a working town rather than a resort, with the Mudéjar-brick churches of Santa María, San Pedro and San Eustaquio in its old centre, and streets that thin out into olive groves and orchards. Just outside town stand the Solúcar solar towers, the tall PS10 and PS20 concentrating-solar plants whose mirror fields are a genuine local landmark. Visitors are mostly here for work, family, or as a quiet base near Seville and the edge of the Doñana area via Aznalcázar. Nearby villages include Bollullos de la Mitación, Benacazón, Umbrete and Villanueva del Ariscal, the latter known for its wine.

The route runs almost entirely on motorway. From the airport you join the A-7 and MA-20 around Málaga, then climb inland on the A-45 to Antequera before turning onto the A-92, the main artery crossing Andalusia. This is open, rolling farmland through Estepa and Osuna, dry and golden in summer, green after winter rain. Approaching Seville you skirt the city on the SE-30/SE-40 ring roads and pick up the A-49 toward Huelva, leaving it at the Sanlúcar La Mayor exit. The final stretch is short, climbing gently onto the Aljarafe. Expect roughly two and a half hours with no toll roads on this itinerary. The terrain is inland throughout — you never see the coast after leaving Málaga.
