What San Pedro de Alcántara is known for
San Pedro de Alcántara sits at the western edge of Marbella municipality, with a walkable old town built around the 19th-century San Pedro parish church and a long central boulevard laid over the old coast road after the A-7 was tunnelled beneath it. The seafront promenade runs along Playa de San Pedro and links towards Guadalmina, where you'll find the Roman baths of Las Bóvedas. Golfers come for Guadalmina, La Quinta, Los Naranjos and Aloha, several within a short drive. Families favour it over louder Puerto Banús, just to the east through Nueva Andalucía, while the A-397 mountain road climbs inland from here to Ronda. It's busiest in summer, though golf and residents keep it active through winter.
The drive west along the coast motorway
The route runs almost entirely on motorway, heading west from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport on the A-7 (with the AP-7 toll road as a faster alternative through the busier stretches). You'll pass Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Marbella before reaching San Pedro. The road hugs the coast with the Sierra Blanca rising inland, and traffic is heaviest around Marbella in July and August. As you approach San Pedro, the motorway drops into the tunnel beneath the town, and the exit brings you up onto the boulevard rather than a bypass, so the final approach is short and direct. Expect roughly 55 minutes in normal conditions, longer at summer peaks or on weekend afternoons.

Getting dropped off in San Pedro and nearby
Tell your driver the specific area, since San Pedro spreads out: the compact old town around Calle Marqués del Duero has narrow one-way streets, while beachside districts like Guadalmina Baja and Linda Vista are gated urbanisations with individual entrances that are easy to miss without an address. If you're staying at a golf resort such as Guadalmina or La Quinta, give the clubhouse or specific villa name. For Puerto Banús nightlife, note it's a separate drop-off a few minutes east. The A-397 to Ronda is a scenic but winding day trip best started early. Supermarkets and pharmacies cluster near the boulevard, and the town's flat centre makes it walkable once you arrive, so you rarely need a car for daily errands.
