Private transfer from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport to Rodalquilar

Rodalquilar is a small village inside the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, in the municipality of Níjar, Almería. It grew up around gold mining, and the abandoned processing plant on the hillside above the village is still standing and open to walk around. There's a botanical garden (El Albardinal) and the Casa de los Volcanes visitor centre. A short road leads down to El Playazo de Rodalquilar, a wide sandy beach guarded by the 18th-century Castillo de San Ramón. Visitors are mostly hikers, birdwatchers, geology enthusiasts and beach day-trippers, busiest in spring and early autumn when the heat is manageable. San José, with more restaurants and accommodation, is a few minutes further south.

This is a long transfer, most of it on motorway. From the airport you join the A-7 eastbound and follow the coast past Motril and the Granada coastline, then continue into Almería province. The road runs inland and through tunnels around Almería city before you leave the motorway for the N-341 towards Níjar. The final stretch is on smaller regional roads through Los Albaricoques and open scrubland into the natural park, where the last few kilometres are quiet and single-carriageway with occasional bends as you descend towards Rodalquilar. Expect roughly three hours without stops. The scenery shifts from green coast to the dry, volcanic terrain that Cabo de Gata is known for as you approach.

Because the journey is close to three hours, plan a stop; the service areas around Motril and Almería city are the practical points, as options thin out once you enter the park. Bring food and water if you're arriving late, since Rodalquilar itself has only a handful of small shops and restaurants that keep limited hours, especially outside summer. Mobile coverage can drop in the park, so confirm your exact accommodation address and any gate codes with the driver before you leave the motorway. If you're heading to a beach house near El Playazo, note the access road is narrow and unpaved in places. For onward exploring, a rental picked up separately is worth considering, as public transport inside the park is minimal.
