Families and long-stay northern European residents come for the low-rise apartment complexes, the Riviera del Sol beach below the coast road, and the beach bars along the sand. The commercial centre near the A-7 has supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants. La Cala de Mijas, with its promenade and old core, is the nearest proper town for evenings out. It's quieter than Marbella and Fuengirola, favoured by people wanting a base rather than nightlife.

The route runs southwest from the airport, joining the AP-7 toll motorway or the free A-7 coast road through Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. The AP-7 is the faster option and avoids the traffic lights and local traffic that build up through Fuengirola in summer. The whole drive is motorway or dual carriageway until the final exit, so it's smooth and mostly flat with sea views on the left. Riviera del Sol sits on sloping ground above and below the road, so the last few minutes involve leaving the A-7, crossing to your side and climbing or dropping through the urbanisation's winding internal streets. The complex has several entrances and the roads loop, so knowing your exact block matters more than the postcode.

Because Riviera del Sol is a sprawling urbanisation and not a single address, give the driver the name of your specific complex or block and the nearest cross street, not just "Riviera del Sol". The internal roads are steep, one-way in places and poorly signposted at night, so a WhatsApp pin from your host saves time. Many apartments are gated with parking barriers; ask in advance whether the car can reach the door or must stop at the entrance. Supermarkets near the A-7 close relatively early, so for late arrivals stock up beforehand or plan on La Cala de Mijas. If you have golf clubs or a lot of luggage, mention it when booking, as the climb to some blocks makes carrying bags awkward.
