Where Puebla Aida sits in Mijas
Puebla Aida is a residential urbanisation on the hillside just below Mijas Pueblo, the whitewashed village that sits above Fuengirola at around 400 metres. It's a quiet, low-rise complex of townhouses and apartments, mostly home to residents and long-stay visitors rather than package tourists. From here it's a short drive or walk up into Mijas Pueblo, with its Plaza Virgen de la Peña, the bullring, the donkey taxis and viewpoints over the coast. Golfers use the nearby Mijas Golf courses down towards the N-340, and the beaches of Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas are roughly ten to fifteen minutes downhill. It suits people who want the coast within reach but prefer the cooler, greener air of the hills.
The drive up from the airport
The route leaves the airport on the A-7 motorway heading southwest along the coast, past Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. Most of the journey is fast dual carriageway, so the first twenty-five minutes are easy going. The character changes at the Fuengirola/Mijas exits, where the road turns inland and climbs the A-387 towards Mijas Pueblo. This final stretch is a genuine mountain road: a steady climb with tight bends and gradually widening views back over Fuengirola and the sea. The last approach into Puebla Aida involves narrow residential lanes, so the pace slows near the end. Total time is usually around 35 minutes, though it can stretch in summer when the coastal motorway and the village itself get busy.
Practical tips for arriving at Puebla Aida
Give your driver the specific block or house number within Puebla Aida, not just the urbanisation name — the complex spreads across several terraced streets and satnavs often stop at the entrance rather than the door. If you're continuing up to Mijas Pueblo, note that the village centre is largely pedestrianised, with paid parking on its edge, so being dropped directly is worth it. The climb can feel steep if you're prone to car sickness; sitting in the front helps. Evenings and winter mornings up here are noticeably cooler than on the beach, so pack a layer. There are small shops in the area but limited late-night options, so if you land late, buy essentials down in Fuengirola before the ascent.
