Pinares de San Antón is a hillside residential area on the eastern edge of Málaga city, above El Palo and close to Cerrado de Calderón and El Limonar. Detached villas and low-rise blocks are spread across pine-covered slopes, which is exactly where the name comes from. Most people here are residents and long-stay renters rather than tourists, plus visitors heading up toward the Montes de Málaga Natural Park for walking and cycling. From many streets you look down over the bay and the eastern beaches of El Palo and Pedregalejo, both known for chiringuitos serving espeto sardines. It is quiet, well away from the old town crowds, yet still a short drive down to the seafront and the city centre.

The airport lies on the western side of the city, so the route crosses Málaga to reach the eastern hills. Drivers usually take the MA-20 ring road, skirting the city and the port area, then head out through the eastern districts past El Palo before turning inland and climbing. The first part is fast dual carriageway; the final stretch is the opposite, with narrow, steep, winding residential streets that switchback up the slope. Total driving time is normally around half an hour, but it depends heavily on traffic on the MA-20 and along the coastal approach, which slows noticeably at rush hour and in summer. Expect the last few minutes to feel very different from the motorway: tight bends, gradients and sharp turns between the villas.

Addresses in Pinares de San Antón can be tricky because the streets wind and split, and villa numbering is not always sequential. Send the driver the exact street name, house number and, if you have one, a pin location or the name of the urbanización, plus a phone number in case the entrance is hard to find. Some access lanes are very narrow and steep, so a large van may need to drop you at the nearest wide point rather than the front door. If you are arriving after dark, note that street lighting is patchy on the upper slopes. There are limited shops up here, so it is worth stopping for groceries in El Palo or at a supermarket on the way up before the final climb.
