Otura sits about 15 km south of Granada city, on the edge of the Vega and the northern approach to the Valle de Lecrín. It is largely a commuter and residential town, home to families and workers who want space away from central Granada while staying close to it. Many arrivals are residents returning home or people visiting relatives rather than tourists. The town has grown with urbanisations spread across the hillside, so streets climb and split into several residential zones. Nearby you have Alhendín, Gójar, Dílar and the villages of the Lecrín valley, with the Sierra Nevada foothills rising to the east. It works well as a quiet base for those heading to Granada's Alhambra, Sierra Nevada, or the ski season without staying in the busy city centre.

This is an inland motorway journey almost the whole way, so it is smooth rather than winding. From the airport you join the A-7 and then head north on the A-45 towards Antequera, climbing away from the coast. Near Antequera the route turns east onto the A-92, crossing open farmland and rolling terrain with distant mountains on both sides. Approaching Granada you pick up the A-44 south, following signs towards Motril, and leave the motorway at the Otura and Alhendín exits. The total is roughly 130 km and about an hour and a half depending on traffic around Granada's ring road. The final stretch into Otura leaves the fast roads for local streets that climb through the residential areas, so the last few minutes are slower.

Otura's urbanisations spread across the hillside and share similar street names, so give the driver the exact street and house number plus a landmark or the name of your urbanisation. GPS can point to the wrong side of the A-44, so confirm whether your address is on the town side or the newer developments. If you are heading on to Sierra Nevada for skiing, note that winter transfers can face queues on the A-44 exits near Granada on weekends. Traffic on Granada's ring road builds during morning and evening rush hours, which adds time. There is little in the way of late-night services in the town itself, so if you land late, arrange any groceries or supplies beforehand. For onward trips into Granada, the A-44 makes the city centre quick outside peak times.
