Where Las Lomas de Cabopino sits in east Marbella
Las Lomas de Cabopino is a hillside residential area in the eastern part of Marbella, on the slopes above the Cabopino marina and roughly midway between Marbella town and Fuengirola. Below it are Puerto Deportivo de Cabopino, the small fishing-and-leisure harbour, and the Artola dunes (Dunas de Artola), a protected natural monument with the 15th-century Torre Ladrones watchtower rising above the sand. Cabopino Golf sits just inland. The residents are largely a mix of permanent expatriate homeowners and holiday-let owners, with families and golfers arriving in spring and autumn and beach-goers filling the dune-backed sands in July and August. The neighbouring resort areas of Elviria and Artola are a short drive west.
The drive along the AP-7 and A-7 coast road
The route runs west along the coast the whole way. Leaving Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport you join the A-7/AP-7 corridor and follow it past Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. The AP-7 toll motorway is the faster option and avoids the traffic lights and heavier local traffic on the free A-7 through the resort towns. The terrain is coastal throughout, with the Sierra de Mijas rising inland on your right and glimpses of the sea to the left. The final approach to Cabopino leaves the motorway at the Cabopino exit, after which a short climb on local roads reaches Las Lomas. Journey time is usually around 35 to 40 minutes when traffic is light; expect longer during summer weekends and evening rush hour.
Practical tips for arriving at Las Lomas de Cabopino
Las Lomas de Cabopino spreads across several streets on the hillside, and the villas and apartment blocks are not always clearly numbered from the road, so give your driver the specific urbanisation name, block and any gate code before arrival. Some access roads are steep and narrow with tight bends near the top, which matters if you travel with a larger vehicle or a lot of luggage. If you plan to use the beach or marina, note that parking near Puerto Cabopino fills quickly in summer, so a transfer that drops you at the door saves circling. For the return, allow extra time in July and August and on Sunday evenings, when the AP-7 exit slip roads back up. Confirm whether your driver uses the AP-7 toll route in advance.
