La Sierrezuela is a residential urbanisation in Mijas Costa, on the hillside above Fuengirola between the coast and Mijas Pueblo. It takes its name from the Parque Forestal La Sierrezuela, a municipal pine forest with marked walking trails, picnic tables and open-air recreation areas that families use at weekends and in spring and autumn. Most people here are residents or long-stay visitors in villas and townhouses rather than hotel tourists. It's a practical base if you want quiet accommodation close to Fuengirola's beaches, the Miramar shopping centre and the train line to Málaga, without staying in the busier seafront zone. The streets climb, so many homes have sea and mountain views.

The route is almost entirely motorway. Leaving Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, the driver joins the A-7/AP-7 heading southwest along the coast, passing Torremolinos and Benalmádena before reaching the Fuengirola area, roughly 28 kilometres in around half an hour with light traffic. The last part is the noticeable change: from the coastal motorway you turn inland and uphill towards Mijas, and the final approach into La Sierrezuela climbs on narrower residential streets with bends and speed bumps. Summer traffic through Torremolinos and Fuengirola exits can add time, especially on July and August afternoons. The motorway views are of the sea on one side and the Mijas hills on the other as you leave the flat coastal strip behind.

La Sierrezuela is a spread-out urbanisation with several access roads and repeated street names, so satnav pins are often approximate. Send your driver the exact villa or block name, the urbanisation entrance you use, and a phone number, since the last few turns can be hard to distinguish. If your accommodation is high on the slope, mention it: some private driveways are steep and narrow. There are no large hotels here, so agree a clear pickup point for the return, ideally a landmark like the park entrance or a specific corner rather than "outside the house". Stock up at the Miramar centre or Fuengirola supermarkets on the way if you're self-catering, as on-site shops are limited. Book return transfers in advance for early flights, as taxis don't wait nearby.
