Private transfer from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport to La Herradura
Door-to-door transfer from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport to La Herradura with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What La Herradura is known for
La Herradura is a seaside village in the municipality of Almuñécar, on Granada's Costa Tropical. Its name means "the horseshoe", after the curved bay framed by two headlands: Punta de la Mona to the east and Cerro Gordo to the west. The pebbly Playa de La Herradura runs the length of the bay, lined with chiringuitos and low-rise apartments. Divers come for the clear water around Marina del Este and the Maro-Cerro Gordo cliffs, one of the best cold-water diving areas on this coast. It draws a quieter crowd than the Costa del Sol resorts: Spanish families in July and August, retirees and long-stay residents through winter, and hikers exploring the coastal trails above the marina in spring and autumn.
The drive along the A-7 coastal motorway
The route runs east from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport along the A-7 Autovía del Mediterráneo, hugging the coast for most of the way. You pass Rincón de la Victoria, Torre del Mar and Nerja before the road climbs into the cliffs at Maro and Cerro Gordo, where a series of tunnels cuts through the headland — this stretch marks the boundary between Málaga and Granada provinces. Shortly after, the exit for La Herradura drops down toward the bay. The final approach is a short descent through the village to sea level, with a few narrow streets near the seafront. The journey is straightforward and almost entirely motorway; expect a little over an hour outside peak periods.
Practical tips for arriving in La Herradura
Give your driver the specific part of La Herradura you're heading to, as the village spreads across distinct areas: the seafront paseo, the flatter town centre, and the villa-covered slopes of Punta de la Mona, where roads are steep and narrow and hard for larger vehicles. If you're staying up on the headland or near Marina del Este, mention it in advance. There is no train to this stretch of coast and bus connections from the airport involve changes in Málaga or Almuñécar, so a direct transfer saves considerable time. In July and August the A-7 near Nerja and the beach approaches get congested at weekends, so allow extra time for departures. Bring cash or card for beach parking, which fills early in summer.
