It is quiet, low-density and built around golf: Atalaya Golf, El Paraíso and Los Arqueros are all within a short drive, and the fairways of Marbella Club Golf Resort climb the hills behind. Most people here are golfers, long-stay holidaymakers and residents rather than day-trippers. The village of Benahavís, known for its restaurants, is a few minutes uphill, while the beaches and beach clubs around Guadalmina and Atalaya are downhill towards the sea. Peak demand runs spring and autumn, when the golf season is busiest and the weather suits walking the courses.

The route runs west from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, almost entirely on motorway. Drivers usually take the A-7 coastal motorway past Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella, then switch to the AP-7 toll road to skip the slow stretch through Marbella and San Pedro, rejoining near the San Pedro tunnel. From there it is a short run to the Cancelada or Atalaya exits. The final section leaves the coast and climbs gently inland on local roads towards Benahavís, where the road narrows and starts to wind as it enters the residential complex. Expect around 50 minutes in normal traffic. Summer weekends and the Friday evening rush around Marbella can add time; the AP-7 toll is the reliable way to avoid the worst congestion.

La Alquería spreads across several gated urbanisations and golf developments, and street names repeat, so give your driver the exact urbanisation name, block or villa number and any gate or barrier code when you book. GPS pins are more reliable here than a street address. If you are staying at a golf resort, note which entrance reception uses, as some complexes have more than one. The area has few shops within walking distance, so if you land late, arrange a supermarket stop on the way — the larger stores are down towards San Pedro de Alcántara. For golf trips, allow extra boot space for clubs when booking. A private transfer makes sense here because taxis are scarce off the main coast road and the final inland climb is awkward with luggage.
