The centre is compact, built around the church and narrow streets that climb steeply, with wide views over the valley toward the sea.

The route leaves the airport and joins the A-7 coastal motorway heading east, skirting Málaga city and running past Rincón de la Victoria and Torre de Benagalbón. You stay on the fast dual carriageway for most of the way, with the Mediterranean on your right, until the Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar exits. From there the road turns inland, climbing on narrower regional roads through the vineyards of the Axarquía toward Iznate. The final approach is winding and steadily uphill, and the last stretch into the village involves tight, sloping streets. Expect roughly 45 minutes to just under an hour depending on traffic around Málaga and Rincón de la Victoria, which can slow in summer and at rush hour. The contrast is sharp: motorway, then quiet hill roads.

Iznate's centre is not built for large vehicles: the streets are narrow and steep, so agree a clear drop-off point with your driver in advance and be ready to walk the last short stretch to some houses. If you are staying in a rural property outside the village, send the exact coordinates or a location pin, as house names alone are unreliable here. There is little in the way of large supermarkets in the village itself, so if you arrive late consider stocking up in Vélez-Málaga or Torre del Mar on the way through. A car is genuinely useful for exploring the surrounding Axarquía villages, but for a single arrival transfer a door-to-door service saves you the winding climb after a flight.
