Guaro: a white village below the Sierra de las Nieves
Guaro is a small inland village in the Guadalhorce valley, sitting between Coín and Monda on the edge of the Sierra de las Nieves. It is a working farming village of white houses and narrow streets around the Iglesia de San Miguel, with far fewer tourists than the coast. Most visitors are people renting a country house nearby, walkers heading into the sierra, or those coming for the Noche de la Luna Mora, held each September, when the streets are lit by thousands of candles and given over to Andalusi music and markets. The surrounding land is planted with citrus and olives. It suits travellers who want quiet nights and easy access to both the mountains and, within half an hour, the Costa del Sol beaches.
The drive inland via the Coín road
The route leaves the airport and joins the A-7 briefly before turning inland on the A-355, the main road that climbs away from Cártama and Alhaurín el Grande toward Coín. This is a fast, well-surfaced dual and single carriageway through the Guadalhorce valley, with citrus groves and the sierra ahead. After skirting Coín you take the smaller A-366 toward Monda, then the local turn-off down into Guaro. The final few kilometres are quieter country road, and the village itself has tight, sloping streets where large vehicles cannot always reach the door. The whole journey is around 45 kilometres and normally takes about 45 minutes, longer at peak times around Coín, which has heavy local traffic on weekday mornings and school runs.

Practical points for arriving in Guaro
Confirm the exact address of your accommodation, as many stays here are cortijos and villas scattered on tracks outside the village rather than in the centre; a road name plus GPS coordinates helps the driver find the gate. If you are staying inside Guaro, expect to be dropped at a nearby square or wider street and to walk the last stretch, as the old streets are steep and narrow. There is little in the way of large supermarkets in the village, so many visitors ask to stop in Coín, which has full-size shops, on the way through. If you are travelling for the Luna Mora weekend in September, allow extra time and arrange a specific meeting point, because parking and access in the centre are restricted during the festival.
