Elviria sits on the eastern edge of Marbella, a spread-out resort area of villas climbing into the hills behind a long sandy shoreline. Families come for the calm beaches and the Don Carlos resort; a younger crowd heads to Nikki Beach for daytime pool parties, busiest from June to September. Much of Elviria is residential, so many arrivals are homeowners, long-stay renters and people attending events at the beach clubs rather than day-trippers passing through.

The route runs west from the airport, joining the A-7 coastal motorway (the toll AP-7 is an alternative for the busier stretches). It's motorway for almost the whole way, passing Fuengirola, La Cala de Mijas and the turnoff for Cabopino before reaching the Elviria exits. The journey is around 40 minutes in normal traffic, longer on summer weekends and during Marbella's peak season when the coastal road backs up near Fuengirola. The final part is the part passengers notice: leaving the motorway, the road climbs through residential streets, and villa addresses in the Elviria hills involve narrow, winding lanes with steep gradients and unmarked private entrances that are easy to miss after dark.

Elviria has no single centre, so a hotel name alone isn't enough — send the full address, the urbanisation name and, for hill villas, a pinned location or the community gate code. Many residential lanes lack streetlights and house numbers run out of sequence, so a phone number for someone at the property helps the driver confirm the final turn. If you're heading to Nikki Beach or the Don Carlos beach, note these are on the seaward side below the motorway, not up in the hills. For golf trips, confirm which course (Santa María, Santa Clara or Greenlife) as they have separate entrances. Supermarkets and restaurants cluster near the Elviria commercial area on the main road, useful for a first-night stop before settling into a villa.
