The route leaves Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport heading southwest, joining the A-7 coastal motorway (the AP-7 toll road runs parallel if traffic is heavy). Most of the journey is straightforward dual carriageway past Torremolinos and Benalmádena, with the sea on the left and the Sierra de Mijas rising to the right. Traffic thickens around Fuengirola, especially in summer and on Friday evenings. The final approach turns inland off the coast road, and the last stretch narrows and climbs gently through residential lanes typical of the Mijas hillside — slower going than the motorway, sometimes with tight turns and speed bumps.
