Where El Paraiso sits on the New Golden Mile
El Paraiso is a residential and golf area on the New Golden Mile, the stretch of coast between San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona, within the municipality of Estepona. It's built around El Paraiso Golf Club, with Atalaya Golf and the Guadalmina courses close by, which is why golfers make up much of the traffic here, especially in spring and autumn. The area is mostly villas and low-rise urbanisations climbing gently from the coast toward Benahavís in the hills behind. Down at sea level, El Paraiso and Barronal beaches are quiet compared with Marbella. Benavista and Cancelada nearby have supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants. Residents and long-stay visitors dominate over day-trippers, giving the neighbourhood a calm, spread-out feel year-round.
The drive from the airport along the AP-7
The route runs west along the coast for most of an hour. From the airport you join the A-7 motorway or the AP-7 toll road, passing Torremolinos, Fuengirola and the long Marbella corridor. Traffic is straightforward motorway driving until you approach Marbella, where the A-7 slows through built-up sections and the AP-7 toll gives a faster, quieter alternative. Past San Pedro de Alcántara the road opens up again toward Estepona. The El Paraiso exit drops you off the motorway onto local roads that wind up through the urbanisation, past the golf club and residential streets. That final stretch is the only part that isn't fast dual carriageway. Expect around an hour without heavy traffic, longer on summer afternoons when the coast road backs up.
Practical tips for arriving in El Paraiso
El Paraiso is spread across several urbanisations with similar names (El Paraiso Alto, Medio and the coastal side), so give your driver the exact villa or complex name plus the nearest landmark — the golf club, Benavista, or a specific street. Many properties sit on private roads with gated entrances and no clear numbering, which is the main reason arrivals get delayed. If you're heading to the beach side, mention Barronal or El Paraiso beach; for the hillside, reference the golf course. The AP-7 toll saves time in July and August when the free A-7 clogs around Marbella. There's no useful public transport link into the urbanisation itself, so a pre-booked door-to-door transfer matters more here than for a town-centre destination. Have your accommodation's access code or contact ready.
