El Morche and the Torrox coast
El Morche is a low-key seaside district of Torrox, in the Axarquía east of Málaga, sitting between Torrox Costa and the hamlet of Lagos. Its long grey-sand beach runs alongside the old N-340, lined with chiringuitos serving espeto de sardinas grilled over wood fires. The area draws long-stay northern European residents, especially Germans, plus Spanish families in July and August who rent apartments near the seafront. Torrox Costa, a short walk west, has a busier promenade, a Roman-era site by the lighthouse, and the town's claim to one of the mildest climates in Europe. Inland, whitewashed Torrox pueblo climbs the hillside among avocado and mango groves. Nerja, with its Balcón de Europa and caves, lies about 15 minutes further east.
The drive east on the A-7 motorway
The route runs almost entirely on the A-7 Autovía del Mediterráneo, heading east from the airport past Málaga city, Rincón de la Victoria and Torre del Mar. It is dual carriageway the whole way, with the sea on one side and the hills of the Axarquía on the other, so the journey is fast and undemanding. Typical door-to-door time is around 50 minutes outside peak periods. The final stretch leaves the motorway near Torrox and drops down toward the coast, where the approach to El Morche uses the old coastal road through Torrox Costa. Traffic can slow briefly around Torre del Mar and along that seafront section in summer, but there are no mountain passes or tight hairpins on this route.

Practical tips for arriving in El Morche
Many stays here are in apartment blocks and urbanisations along or just behind the old N-340 seafront, where street numbers on that road can be confusing and some complexes have several entrances. Share your exact block name, portal number and any gate code with the driver in advance, and a pin location if possible. There is no train to this part of the coast — the Cercanías line ends at Málaga, so a car transfer is the practical way in. If you are heading to Torrox pueblo up the hill rather than the coast, say so, as it is a separate detour off the motorway. For late arrivals, most chiringuitos and supermarkets close early, so consider arranging a supermarket stop en route if you need supplies.
