El Faro de Calaburras and the Mijas Costa strip
El Faro sits on the Mijas Costa coastline around the Faro de Calaburras lighthouse, between Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas. It's mostly low-rise residential development strung along the old N-340 coast road, with small sandy coves and rocky stretches like Playa El Chaparral just west. Residents and long-stay visitors dominate here rather than mass tourism, and many arrive for golf: Calanova, La Noria and Santana courses are close inland, with Mijas Golf a short drive up. Families use the beaches in summer, while the whitewashed Mijas Pueblo in the hills above is a common day trip. Fuengirola's marina, promenade and train station are a few minutes east, giving easy access to shops and restaurants without staying in a crowded resort centre.
The A-7 coast run from the airport
The drive is short and almost entirely motorway. Leaving Málaga Airport you join the A-7 westbound, skirting Torremolinos and Benalmádena Costa before reaching Fuengirola. Most drivers stay on the A-7 dual carriageway rather than the tolled AP-7, since the free road is direct enough for this distance. After Fuengirola the road narrows towards Calaburras, and the final approach drops down onto the coastal N-340a with the sea on your left near the lighthouse. Expect around half an hour outside peak times. The terrain is flat coastal plain the whole way, with the Sierra de Mijas rising inland to your right. Summer weekends and the Fuengirola stretch can slow things down, but there are no mountain roads or difficult passes involved.

Getting to your exact door in El Faro
Addresses along El Faro and Calaburras sit on side roads branching off the N-340a, and many urbanisations look alike, so give your driver the exact urbanisation name, block and, if possible, the kilometre marker of the coast road. Some entrances are only reachable by a slip road that requires a U-turn at the next junction, which is normal here. If you're staying in a villa on the hillside behind the coast, warn ahead about narrow or steep private lanes. Shops are limited in the immediate area, so a stop at a supermarket in Fuengirola or La Cala is worth arranging in advance if you arrive late. For golf trips, confirm whether your accommodation is near the course or several kilometres inland, as names can be misleading.
