Coín and the Guadalhorce Valley
Coín sits inland in the Guadalhorce Valley, surrounded by citrus and stone-fruit groves that give the area its farming character. The centre is built on slopes, with the churches of San Juan Bautista and Santa María de la Encarnación, the Plaza Alameda and narrow streets that funnel down to the Río Grande. Many northern-European residents live here year-round, drawn by the mild inland climate and the weekly market. It's a base for walkers heading towards Monda, Guaro, Tolox and the Sierra de las Nieves, and for people who want countryside rather than the beachfront but still within reach of the coast. The August feria fills the town for several days.
The drive inland via the A-357 and A-355
The route leaves the airport on the A-7 and then joins the A-357, the Guadalhorce corridor, heading inland past Cártama rather than towards the coastal resorts. From there the A-355 climbs gently towards Coín through open valley farmland, with the Sierra de las Nieves rising ahead. It's fast dual carriageway for most of the way, so the journey usually runs 35–40 minutes with normal traffic. The final approach passes the La Trocha commercial centre and a series of roundabouts before reaching the town. If your accommodation is in the older upper streets rather than the newer edges, the last stretch narrows and steepens, which is worth flagging to your driver in advance.

Practical tips for arriving in Coín
Many stays around Coín are rural houses (fincas) reached by unnamed country tracks off the A-355 or the roads towards Alhaurín el Grande and Monda. Send your host's exact pin location and any gate or track details before travelling, as these lanes are hard to find after dark. There's no train to Coín, so a private transfer or car is the realistic option. If you plan to explore the Sierra de las Nieves or reach La Cala de Mijas over the A-387 mountain road, note that route is winding and slower than the inland approach. The weekly market and the La Trocha centre cover most shopping needs, but smaller village shops around Coín close for a long midday break.
