Passengers prone to car sickness should be prepared for the climbing curves in the final ten minutes.

Carratraca's old-town streets are steep and too narrow for large vehicles, so agree a drop-off point at the entrance to the village or near the Balneario rather than assuming a car can reach your door. If your real destination is the Caminito del Rey, tell the driver in advance: the walk's ticketed entrances are at El Chorro and Ardales, a short drive further on, not in Carratraca itself. Bring anything you'll need for the evening, as village shops are limited and close early. There is no direct train, and bus links from the coast are infrequent, which makes a booked transfer the simplest way to arrive.
