Cancelada is a district of Estepona on the western Costa del Sol, part of the strip known as the New Golden Mile between San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona town. The original village sits slightly inland, with its church, weekly street market and a cluster of everyday shops, while newer residential urbanisations spread down towards the coast. It sits next to Selwo Aventura wildlife park and the Laguna Village beach and shopping complex on the A-7. Golfers use it as a base for El Paraíso, Atalaya and Guadalmina courses, all a short drive away. It draws long-stay residents, northern-European homeowners and families who prefer a quieter spot than Marbella but want the beach and Puerto Banús within reach.

The route runs west from the airport almost entirely on dual carriageway. Drivers join the A-7 (or the AP-7 toll motorway to skip traffic) and pass Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella before reaching Cancelada, roughly 70 kilometres and around 55 minutes in normal conditions. The road hugs the coast with the sea on your left and the Sierra Blanca behind Marbella on your right. The final approach leaves the motorway at the Selwo or Cancelada exits, then drops onto local roads and roundabouts serving the urbanisations. Summer weekends and the stretch around Marbella and San Pedro can slow things down considerably; the AP-7 usually keeps the journey predictable. The last few minutes involve residential streets rather than open road.

Cancelada's urbanisations often look alike and share long entrance roads, so give your driver the exact urbanisation name, block and any gate or barrier code rather than just "Cancelada". Many gated communities need a resident to open the barrier, so warn your host of your arrival time. If your accommodation is near the coast by Laguna Village or Selwo, the A-7 access is straightforward; properties higher up towards El Paraíso involve narrower, sloping streets where a large vehicle needs room to turn. In July and August the coast road backs up in the afternoons, so allow extra time for a departure transfer to the airport. There is no train station nearby, and taxis can be scarce late at night, which makes a pre-booked door-to-door transfer the reliable option.
