The route leaves the airport and joins the coastal corridor heading southwest, passing Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola. Most drivers use the A-7 (the old N-340 coastal road) or the AP-7 toll motorway for the faster middle stretch. It's dual carriageway almost the whole way, with the sea on your left and the Mijas hills on your right. The journey is typically around 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic through Fuengirola, which is the usual bottleneck in summer. The final part is the tricky bit: Calahonda is not a single street but a hillside network of urbanisations reached by several exits off the A-7, and the internal roads climb and twist. Knowing your specific complex or street name matters more here than the word Calahonda alone.
