Cala del Moral on the eastern Costa del Sol
Cala del Moral is the westernmost district of the Rincón de la Victoria municipality, just east of Málaga city and its El Palo suburbs. It's a quieter, largely residential beach town rather than a resort strip, popular with Málaga families who keep second homes here and with retirees who live year-round. The Playa de Cala del Moral is a grey-sand beach lined with chiringuitos serving espeto sardines in summer. A big local draw is the Senda Litoral coastal path that runs west toward Málaga through a series of old, lit railway tunnels carved into the cliffs. Nearby you'll find Añoreta Golf, the Cueva del Tesoro cave in central Rincón de la Victoria, and the Peñón del Cuervo cove back toward the city. Peak season is July and August.
The drive east through Málaga to Cala del Moral
The route runs almost entirely on fast dual carriageway. From the airport you join the MA-20 ring road that skirts the western and northern edge of Málaga city, then continue east on the A-7, which passes through several tunnels as it cuts along the coast past El Palo. Cala del Moral sits at the first exits after those tunnels, so the final approach is short. The drive is around 24 kilometres and typically takes about 30 minutes. Traffic is the main variable: the MA-20 around Málaga can slow noticeably at rush hour and on summer weekends when beach traffic heads east. The last stretch drops off the motorway onto the coastal frontage and local streets, which are compact but not the tight old-town lanes you'd find in a hill village.

Practical notes for arriving in Cala del Moral
Have your exact street address ready, including whether you're in Cala del Moral proper or one of the apartment blocks up the hillside toward the Añoreta area — the town splits between the seafront and higher residential streets, and drivers save time knowing which. Parking near the beachfront is limited in July and August, so if your accommodation lacks a private space, expect the driver to stop on a nearby street. The town has no train station of its own; the nearest rail link is back in Málaga, which makes a direct transfer worthwhile if you're carrying luggage or golf clubs. For late arrivals, note that supermarkets and chiringuitos close early outside peak season, so plan to buy essentials at the airport or in Málaga on the way through.
