What Bermejo is like on the Estepona coast
Bermejo sits on the stretch of coast west of Marbella known as the New Golden Mile, in the municipality of Estepona. It's a low-density residential area of villas and apartment complexes rather than a resort town, so the people arriving here are mostly homeowners, long-stay renters and families who want beach access without Marbella's crowds. The nearest sand is the wide, quiet Playa del Saladillo and Costalita beaches, backed by chiringuitos that open in summer. Estepona's old town, with its whitewashed streets and flower pots, is a short drive west, while Puerto Banús and San Pedro de Alcántara lie east. Golfers use it as a base for the many courses inland toward Benahavís. It's calmest out of season and busiest in July and August.
The drive from Málaga Airport along the A-7
The route runs almost entirely on the A-7 (Autovía del Mediterráneo) heading southwest along the coast. From the airport you pass Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and the Calahonda stretch before reaching Marbella, then continue past San Pedro de Alcántara toward Estepona. In summer or on weekends the section around Marbella and Puerto Banús can slow noticeably, and the parallel AP-7 toll motorway is the reliable alternative that skips those bottlenecks. The road is dual carriageway the whole way, with the sea often visible to your left. The final approach involves leaving the motorway and dropping down through the New Golden Mile's service road to reach the specific urbanisation, which is straightforward but has several similarly named complexes close together.
Practical tips for arriving in Bermejo
Because Bermejo is a residential zone rather than a single hotel, send your driver the exact urbanisation name, block and gate code in advance — many complexes have controlled entrances and the service road access points aren't obvious from the A-7. Pin a location on a map rather than relying on the address alone. There's little in the way of large supermarkets within walking distance, so if you're self-catering, ask to stop at a Mercadona or Supercor in Estepona or San Pedro on the way in. Taxis are scarce here once you arrive, so book return transport ahead. If you land in peak summer traffic, factor in extra time; the AP-7 toll option is worth it when the coastal A-7 is congested around Marbella.
