Benalup-Casas Viejas sits inland in Cádiz province, on the edge of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park with its cork-oak forests and river gorges. The town itself is small and low-key, remembered for the 1933 anarchist uprising that gave Casas Viejas its place in Spanish history. It's busiest in spring and early autumn.

This is a long, mostly motorway run of around 200 km. From the airport you join the AP-7/A-7 corridor along the western Costa del Sol, passing Marbella, Estepona and the descent towards Algeciras and the Bay of Gibraltar. From there the route turns inland on the A-381, the fast dual carriageway between Los Barrios and Jerez that crosses open dehesa and the edge of Los Alcornocales, before dropping south on smaller roads through Medina Sidonia country to reach Benalup. Expect roughly two and a half hours. The scenery shifts from built-up coast to empty grazing land, and the final stretch into town is on quiet two-lane roads. It's a comfortable, uneventful drive rather than a winding mountain approach.

Because Benalup is genuinely rural, arrange your return pickup in advance — taxis are scarce locally and public transport to the airport is impractical. If you're staying at the Fairplay resort, tell us the exact entrance and building, as the complex spreads over a large site. Bring anything you need for the sierra and beaches before arriving; the town has basic shops but not the range you'd find on the coast. The A-381 has few service stations once you leave the Costa del Sol, so factor in a stop early if you have children. Golfers with clubs and families with beach gear should mention luggage volume when booking so we send a suitable vehicle. Fuel, food and a rest break are easiest around Algeciras or Los Barrios rather than closer to Benalup.
