What Benalmádena Costa is known for
Benalmádena Costa is the beachfront strip below the hillside village of Benalmádena Pueblo and the Arroyo de la Miel neighbourhood. The centrepiece is Puerto Marina, a maze of waterways lined with bars, restaurants and moorings, next to Bil-Bil Castle. Beaches like Malapesquera, Santa Ana and Playa Bonita draw families through summer, while the Torrequebrada casino and seafront clubs run late in high season. Day-trippers ride the Teleférico cable car up Monte Calamorro for coastal views, and Tivoli World and Selwo Marina keep children busy. The Paloma park sits behind the promenade. It's a resort area that fills up from June to September, with a quieter British and Nordic residential crowd staying through winter.
The drive from the airport along the coast
The route heads southwest from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, joining the A-7 coastal motorway (or the AP-7 toll road) that runs parallel to the sea past Torremolinos. It's almost entirely dual carriageway, so the journey is short and straightforward — usually around 25 minutes outside peak hours. You'll exit at one of the Benalmádena junctions and drop down toward the seafront. The final stretch into Puerto Marina and the beach hotels can slow in July and August, when the coast road and the area around the marina get congested. If your hotel sits up in Benalmádena Pueblo rather than the Costa, expect a steeper, winding climb inland after leaving the motorway, which adds a few minutes.

Practical tips for arriving in Benalmádena Costa
Tell your driver whether you're staying in Benalmádena Costa (seafront), Arroyo de la Miel (behind, near the train station and Tivoli) or Benalmádena Pueblo (the hilltop village) — they are separate areas and confusing them adds real driving time. Around Puerto Marina, many hotels sit on pedestrianised or one-way streets, so a car may drop you at the nearest accessible point rather than the door. The Cercanías C1 train links Arroyo de la Miel with the airport, but with luggage or a late arrival a direct transfer is simpler. For golf, Torrequebrada's course is close to the coast road. Have your exact hotel name and street ready, as several resort complexes share similar names along the front.
