Arriate is a small whitewashed town in the Serranía de Ronda, sitting in the Guadalcobacín valley about 5 km north of Ronda itself. It's surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and market gardens, and keeps a working, residential feel rather than a touristy one. Most arrivals are people renting rural houses in the surrounding countryside, visitors coming to walk the valley and riverside paths, or travellers using Arriate as a quieter base near Ronda. The town has its own station on the Algeciras–Bobadilla railway line, which some visitors combine with road transfers. Spring and autumn bring hikers and cyclists; summer brings families staying in cortijos and fincas nearby. The narrow central streets around the church fill up during local ferias.

From Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport the usual route heads inland on the A-357 towards Cártama and the Guadalhorce valley, then climbs on the A-367 through Cuevas del Becerro toward Ronda. The first stretch is fast dual carriageway; the second half is a winding mountain road that gains height steadily, with long views over the sierra and several tight bends. Expect around an hour and forty minutes for roughly 115 km, longer if you're behind slow traffic on the climb. As you near Ronda the road passes the town's outskirts before dropping down to Arriate along the MA-7401. The final approach into the town uses narrow streets, so drivers often stop at a convenient point rather than squeezing right to the door.
