This is an inland journey, not a coastal one. From Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport the route heads west and then turns inland, typically via the A-357 towards Campillos and then the A-384 corridor that runs through Olvera, Algodonales and Villamartín before reaching Arcos. Expect open farmland, olive groves, and the low sierras of northern Cádiz rather than the sea. The road is fast dual and single carriageway for most of the way, with the pace slowing as you pass through or near the white towns. The final approach climbs to the town on the ridge, and the streets in the historic quarter are steep and narrow. Plan on around two hours door to door, more if you stop for photos along the pueblos blancos.

The historic quarter of Arcos is largely closed to through traffic and the lanes are too tight for larger vehicles, so tell your driver your exact accommodation in advance — many hotels near the Plaza del Cabildo require a short walk from the nearest drop-off point with luggage. If you are heading onward to Grazalema, Ronda or Jerez, it is often cheaper and simpler to arrange that leg from Arcos rather than doubling back. There are no direct trains from Málaga Airport, so a private transfer avoids changing in Jerez or Sevilla. Bring water and comfortable shoes for the cobbled slopes. If you plan to explore the Sierra de Grazalema, note that some park trails require a permit booked ahead, especially in high season and dry-weather fire-risk periods.
