Expect roughly two hours depending on traffic around Málaga and the pass. It's a scenic but curving last section, so passengers prone to travel sickness should sit forward and keep water handy. The approach into Almedinilla itself drops down towards the river valley.

Almedinilla is a small town, so give the driver the specific street or the name of your rural house or apartment rather than just the town; several accommodations here are cortijos and casas rurales set outside the centre on tracks that satellite navigation reads imperfectly. The old core has narrow, sloping streets where a car may need to drop you at the nearest accessible point. Fuel and larger supermarkets are easier in Priego de Córdoba, so consider a brief stop there on the way in if you're self-catering. If your plan includes a Roman banquet at the museum, book it well ahead and coordinate your arrival time. For the return, allow generously for the winding section before the A-45 and the possibility of slow traffic entering Málaga near the airport.
