Algodonales sits at the foot of the Sierra de Líjar, on the northern edge of the Grazalema Natural Park in Cádiz province. It's one of the Pueblos Blancos, with whitewashed houses climbing around the Iglesia de Santa Ana and a long tradition of handmade guitar workshops. Most visitors come for the outdoors: the Loma del Águila launch on the Sierra de Líjar is one of Spain's best-known paragliding sites, drawing pilots year-round when conditions allow. Hikers and cyclists use the town as a base for Zahara de la Sierra, El Gastor, Olvera and Setenil de las Bodegas, and the Zahara–El Gastor reservoir nearby is used for swimming and kayaking in summer. Spring and autumn bring the steadiest weather.

The route leaves the coast almost immediately, heading inland along the Guadalhorce corridor on the A-357 through Cártama and Pizarra towards Ardales and Campillos. From there it joins the A-384, the main road that links the Sierra de Cádiz villages, running west towards Algodonales. This is not a coastal drive: after the first stretch of dual carriageway the landscape opens into farmland, olive groves and then rising limestone hills as you approach the sierra. The journey is roughly 135 kilometres and typically takes around an hour and forty minutes with normal traffic. The final approach is straightforward, with Algodonales visible against the Sierra de Líjar before you reach it, and the drop-off is on the edge of the compact village rather than deep in narrow lanes.

Algodonales has limited public transport connections, so a direct transfer avoids changing between buses at Ronda or Sevilla. If you're arriving with paragliding gear, let the driver know in advance: wings and harnesses travel fine in a saloon car, but a group with equipment may need a larger vehicle. There are few large shops in the village itself, so consider a stop at a supermarket in Campillos or on the way if you're self-catering. Fuel and services thin out once you leave the A-357, so a stop before the sierra is sensible for long onward plans. Mornings on the Sierra de Líjar are often best for flying, which is worth factoring into arrival timing. Mobile coverage is generally good in the village but patchy on the mountain tracks above it.
