Private transfer from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport to Algarrobo
Door-to-door transfer from Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport to Algarrobo with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
Algarrobo Pueblo, Algarrobo Costa and the Axarquía
Algarrobo splits into two distinct parts. Algarrobo Pueblo sits about two kilometres inland, a white village of steep, narrow streets climbing towards the Ermita de San Sebastián, with the Phoenician Necrópolis de Trayamar nearby. Down on the shore, Algarrobo Costa has a flat seafront promenade, the beaches of the Costa and the small neighbouring settlements of Mezquitilla and Lagos. The area belongs to the Axarquía, a farming region known for muscatel grapes, avocados and the local tortas de Algarrobo pastry. It draws mostly Spanish and northern-European residents and long-stay visitors rather than package tourists, along with families in summer who prefer a quieter base than Torremolinos or Nerja, and day-trippers heading to Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar.
The drive east on the A-7 motorway
The route runs east from the airport almost entirely on the A-7 (autovía del Mediterráneo), the fast dual carriageway that skirts the coast. You pass the Málaga city bypass, Rincón de la Victoria and the tunnels below the cliffs, then continue past the Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar exits. Most of the journey is straightforward motorway, taking roughly 45 minutes in normal traffic. For Algarrobo Costa the drive ends near the seafront off the old N-340 coast road. For Algarrobo Pueblo the final stretch turns inland and climbs a couple of kilometres up a narrower valley road, ending in tight village streets where larger vehicles cannot always reach the very top. Summer weekends and the coastal stretch near Málaga can add time.
Practical tips for arriving in Algarrobo
Tell your driver clearly whether you are going to Algarrobo Pueblo or Algarrobo Costa — they are separate places several kilometres apart, and confusing them adds a detour. If your accommodation is high in the old village, share the street name in advance; some lanes are stepped or pedestrian-only, so agree a drop-off point near a square such as the area by the Ayuntamiento. Coastal apartments in Algarrobo Costa are easier to reach directly. There is no train to Algarrobo itself; the nearest broad transport hub is Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, so a direct transfer saves changing at Málaga. If you plan to explore the Axarquía villages like Cómpeta or Frigiliana afterwards, note that a car is genuinely useful, as local bus links are limited.
