From Lyon-Saint-Exupéry you take the A43 motorway toward Chambéry, then the A430 and N90 past Albertville and Moûtiers, following the Isère up the Tarentaise valley through Aime and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Motorway and fast road cover most of the distance; the last stretch is the demanding part. After Bourg-Saint-Maurice the road climbs steeply past the Chevril dam and the Lac du Chevril reservoir, tightening into switchbacks before reaching the plateau at Tignes. On winter weekends this final mountain section can be slow with traffic and snow, and chains or winter tyres are often required, so the climb alone can add considerable time to the journey.

Tell the driver your exact residence and village, as Val Claret and Le Lavachet are reached by different approaches and some central addresses sit inside pedestrian zones where vehicles drop at the nearest road point, leaving a short walk with luggage. Winter Saturdays are the busiest change-over days across the Tarentaise, so an early or late slot avoids the worst congestion around Moûtiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. The altitude gain is large — you'll climb from the valley floor to 2,100m — so have warm clothing accessible rather than packed deep in a case. For summer trips, check that lifts and the glacier are operating during your dates. Keep passports and ski-pass vouchers to hand, and allow extra buffer before return flights, since the descent can also be slowed by weekend traffic.
