Private transfer from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport to Morzine, Portes du Soleil
Door-to-door transfer from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport to Morzine, Portes du Soleil with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Morzine is like across the seasons
Morzine sits at around 1,000m in the Haute-Savoie, a working market town rather than a purpose-built resort, which is why it keeps a year-round population and slate-roofed chalets along the Dranse river. In winter it links directly into the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski areas crossing into Switzerland, with lifts like the Pleney and Super Morzine cable cars leaving from the centre, plus Avoriaz up the mountain. Families and intermediate skiers come for the long, connected pistes; the Supermorzine bridge lets you walk to the télécabine from town. In summer the same lifts serve mountain bikers heading to the Pleney and Avoriaz bike parks, hikers around Lac de Montriond, and road cyclists tackling the Col de Joux Verte and Col de la Ramaz.
The drive from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry to Morzine
Most of the route is motorway. You leave the airport on the A43, join the A42 and then the A40 — the "Autoroute Blanche" — past Bourg-en-Bresse and skirting the southern edge of Geneva's reach. After Cluses you exit the motorway and the character changes completely: the D902 climbs the Gorges du Tines along the Dranse valley through Taninges and Les Gets' turnoff, then a steady series of bends up to Morzine. Expect roughly two and three-quarter hours in clear conditions. The final 30–40 minutes is the part passengers notice — narrower valley road, forest, and switchbacks. In winter the Cluses-to-Morzine stretch can carry snow, and traffic peaks on Saturday changeover days when the whole valley fills with resort transfers.
Practical tips for this transfer
Give your exact chalet or hotel name and street — Morzine spreads along the valley and up side roads to hamlets like Les Prodains (the Avoriaz cable car base), Montriond and Essert-Romand, and some lanes are tight for a large vehicle. In peak winter weeks, schedule around the Saturday changeover, when the D902 and resort car parks are busiest; mid-week arrivals move faster. Many central chalets are in pedestrian or restricted zones, so confirm the nearest drop-off point in advance. Winter travellers should expect the driver to use winter tyres or chains on the final climb. If you're continuing to Avoriaz, note the town itself is largely car-free, so transfers usually stop at the Prodains gondola or the resort entrance rather than the apartment door.
