What La Plagne Villages is and who goes there
La Plagne Villages sits at roughly 2,050 m, directly linked by walkways and lifts to Plagne Centre, so you can reach shops, ski schools and the main slopes without putting on skis. It is one of several altitude villages in La Plagne, alongside Belle Plagne, Plagne Bellecôte, Plagne Soleil, Plagne 1800 and Aime 2000. Most visitors are winter skiers drawn to the ski-in ski-out apartments and the Paradiski link to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express cable car. Families predominate thanks to gentle local runs and connecting pistes. In summer the resort is quieter, used by hikers and cyclists heading into the Vanoise. The village is largely pedestrian at its core, with parking and drop-off areas at the edges.
The drive up the Tarentaise valley
The route runs on motorway for most of its length: the A43 from the airport towards Chambéry, then the A430 and N90 past Albertville and into the Tarentaise valley through Moûtiers. This stretch is fast and mostly flat, following the Isère river. The character changes after Aime, where the road leaves the valley floor and climbs a series of tight switchbacks up to the altitude villages. Expect around 20 to 30 minutes of continuous winding on this final section, gaining well over a thousand metres. The total is roughly 195 km and about two and three-quarter hours in good conditions. In winter the mountain road can be snow-covered and slow, and Saturdays in the ski season bring heavy transfer traffic around Moûtiers and Aime.
Practical tips for this transfer
Tell your driver exactly which village and residence you are staying in: "La Plagne" covers many separate hubs, and arriving at Plagne Centre when your apartment is in Belle Plagne means a long walk with luggage. Confirm the residence name and the nearest drop-off point, as the core of Plagne Villages is pedestrian and vehicles stop at the periphery. Saturday is changeover day, so transfers and road crews cluster then; a midweek or early arrival is smoother. In winter, pack boots and a warm layer in your hand luggage for the final stretch and drop-off. Moûtiers is the last town with large supermarkets and a train station, useful if you want to stock up before the climb. Allow extra time on snowy days, when chains or winter tyres slow the switchbacks.
