Private transfer from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport to L'Alpe d'Huez (Villard-Reculas)

What Villard-Reculas offers within the Alpe d'Huez area
Villard-Reculas is a small farming village at around 1,500 m, home to only a few dozen permanent residents and set below the main resort of Alpe d'Huez. It keeps its stone houses and a church with a slim bell tower, and it is linked to the much larger Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine by the Signal chairlift, giving skiers access to the full network while avoiding the crowded centre. Most visitors are families and skiers who want quiet, south-facing slopes in winter, plus walkers and mountain bikers in summer who use the same lift for the Oisans trails. It suits people who prefer a calmer base than the busy main station a few kilometres above.
The drive up the Romanche valley to Villard-Reculas
The route leaves Lyon-Saint-Exupéry on the A43/A480 toward Grenoble, then follows the N85 to Vizille and the N91 along the Romanche valley toward Bourg-d'Oisans. This first stretch is fast motorway and open valley road, roughly two hours. The character changes near Rochetaillée, where the road branches off the main Alpe d'Huez approach and climbs on a narrow, twisting mountain road with tight hairpins up to the village terrace at about 1,500 m. Villard-Reculas is not on the famous 21-bend climb to Alpe d'Huez itself; it sits on a separate, quieter access road. Expect the final 20–30 minutes to be slow and winding, with drops to one side and limited passing room where vehicles meet.
Practical tips for this transfer in winter and summer
In winter, the final access road to Villard-Reculas is narrow and can be snow-covered; give your driver the exact chalet or residence name, as the village is compact and parking near the centre is limited. Many accommodations are a short walk from the road, so pack with that in mind. Have your Signal chairlift and ski-area details ready if you plan to ski the first day. For afternoon arrivals, allow extra time in winter: snowfall, chains and slower traffic through Bourg-d'Oisans add delay. Stock up on groceries in Vizille or Bourg-d'Oisans before the climb, since village shops are minimal. In summer the same road serves hikers and cyclists, and the lower section can be busy on race days around the Alpe d'Huez climbs.
