Private transfer from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport to Avoriaz 1800 Portes du Soleil

What makes Avoriaz 1800 different
Avoriaz sits at 1,800 metres on a cliff edge above Morzine, and it is entirely car-free. The cedar-shingled buildings, designed by Jacques Labro in the 1960s, are clustered on tiered levels connected on foot, by ski, or by horse-drawn sledge and snowcat. It anchors the French side of the Portes du Soleil, the cross-border domain linking Morzine, Les Gets, Châtel and the Swiss villages of Morgins and Champéry. Families come for the Village des Enfants and the Aquariaz indoor water park; freestyle skiers come for the snowparks and the Stash in the trees. Because you cannot drive in, your vehicle stops at Les Prodains below, where the gondola or resort transport takes over for the final climb.
The drive from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry
The route runs mostly on motorway for the first two hours. From the airport you take the A43 and A42 corridor towards Geneva, then join the A40 Autoroute Blanche heading towards Chamonix. You leave the motorway around Cluses in the Arve valley and switch to the D902, which climbs steadily through Taninges and Les Gets, or via Morzine, before the final winding approach to Les Prodains. Expect the last section to be slow: tight bends, forest, and traffic on Saturday changeover days. The scenery shifts from the flat Rhône plain to the Haute-Savoie mountains well before you reach Morzine. Total driving time is usually under three hours in good conditions, longer in heavy snow or peak-week congestion.
Practical tips for arriving in Avoriaz
Plan the handover at Les Prodains carefully, since no private car reaches the resort itself. The Prodains Express gondola runs to Avoriaz, and most accommodation offers luggage transport by snowcat or sledge from the top station — arrange this with your lodging in advance, including arrival time, as the service and gondola have operating hours. Pack a small bag with essentials in case your main luggage follows separately. In winter, carry warm layers for the exposed gondola ride and the walk through the snow-covered streets. Saturdays are the busiest changeover days in the Arve valley and on the D902, so an earlier flight helps. Outside the ski season many services in Avoriaz close, so confirm that your gondola and transport options are running before you travel.
