Private transfer from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport to Piran
Door-to-door transfer from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport to Piran with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Piran is like when you arrive
Piran sits on a narrow peninsula on Slovenia's Adriatic coast, built by the Venetians and shaped like it hasn't changed much in centuries. Its centre is Tartini Square, named after violinist Giuseppe Tartini, whose statue stands in the middle. From there streets climb to St George's Parish Church and its bell tower, and run out to the Punta lighthouse at the tip. There is no sandy beach in town itself; swimmers use the concrete platforms below the walls or head to Fiesa, a short walk east. Most visitors come between May and September, mixing day-trippers, couples on short breaks and Slovenians on weekends. The old town is car-free, which is the single most important thing to plan around.
The drive from the airport to the coast
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport is at Brnik, north of the capital, so the route runs south first. The driver joins the ring road around Ljubljana and picks up the A1 motorway heading southwest toward Koper. This is the long, easy stretch: fast dual carriageway through inland Slovenia, then over the Karst plateau, with a couple of tunnels and the descent toward the Bay of Trieste. Near Koper the motorway ends and the road follows the coast past Izola before the final approach to Piran, which narrows and winds as it drops toward the peninsula. The whole journey is usually around an hour and three quarters. Summer weekends and the stretch near the coast are where delays build up.
Getting into the car-free old town
Cars cannot enter Piran's old town, so a transfer normally ends at the Fornače parking area on the edge of the peninsula, from where a free town shuttle runs to Tartini Square. Tell your driver your exact accommodation name and street: some hosts arrange a permit for a brief drop-off at the entrance, otherwise you finish the last few hundred metres on foot over cobbles, so pack accordingly and travel light on wheels. If you are staying in Portorož instead, say so when booking, because its hotels have their own entrances and the drop-off is different. For onward trips, Piran's marina and the small bus station near Fornače connect to Izola, Koper and the Sečovlje salt pans.
