Private transfer from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport to Bohinj lake
Door-to-door transfer from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport to Bohinj lake with professional driver, fixed price and flight monitoring included.
What Lake Bohinj is like on arrival
Lake Bohinj sits inside Triglav National Park and is quieter and wilder than nearby Bled. Most visitors base themselves at Ribčev Laz, the eastern end, where the stone bridge, the Church of St John the Baptist, and the main boat pier and rowing hire are clustered. The western end, Ukanc, is the trailhead for the Savica waterfall and the base station of the Vogel cable car, which runs a ski area in winter and hiking terrain in summer. Hamlets like Stara Fužina, Studor with its wooden hayracks, and Srednja vas keep the valley rural. Hikers, cyclists, kayakers and families come here spring through autumn; winter draws skiers heading up to Vogel. Swimming is possible off the grassy shores in July and August.
The drive from the airport through the Sava valley
Jože Pučnik Airport sits near Kranj, so the route heads northwest onto the A2 motorway toward Jesenice. This is easy, fast driving through the upper Sava valley, with the Karavanke and Julian Alps building on both sides. You leave the motorway around the Lesce–Bled exit and switch to the regional road that climbs gently to Bohinjska Bistrica, the valley's main town, where there's a supermarket and rail station. From there the final stretch to Ribčev Laz is a narrower two-lane road following the Sava Bohinjka river, with a few bends but nothing dramatic. The whole trip is roughly an hour. In summer the last kilometres and the lakeside parking can be busy, and in winter this final section may be snow-covered, so it's driven more slowly.
Practical tips for this specific transfer
Tell the driver exactly where you're staying: Bohinj is spread across several settlements, and Ribčev Laz, Ukanc, Stara Fužina and Bohinjska Bistrica are all separate stops on the valley road. Ukanc, at the far western shore, is a good ten minutes past the main pier. Cars cannot drive right up to some lakeside guesthouses, and paid parking near the bridge fills early in high season, so a door-drop transfer saves circling. There are few large shops in the valley itself, so stopping in Bohinjska Bistrica for groceries on the way in is worthwhile, especially if you arrive on a Sunday when smaller shops close. Mobile signal is patchy on the Vogel and Savica trails, so confirm your return pickup time and point before you set off, and carry layers—valley mornings stay cold even in summer.
