The route runs almost entirely on motorway. From the airport you cross Lisbon and the 25 de Abril or Vasco da Gama bridge onto the A2, which heads south through the cork oak plains of the Alentejo. This middle stretch is flat and unremarkable, with long gaps between service areas, so it reads as a steady cruise rather than a scenic drive. Near Albufeira the A2 meets the A22 (Via do Infante); you turn west and leave at the Lagoa/Carvoeiro exit. The final few kilometres drop down local roads toward the coast, narrowing as you approach Carvoeiro's centre. Expect roughly two and three-quarter hours without stops, longer on summer Fridays.

Confirm your exact drop-off, not just "Lagoa": Carvoeiro, Ferragudo, Sesmarias and the golf areas are several kilometres apart and reached by different exits. Carvoeiro's centre is tight and largely pedestrianised in the streets near the beach, so many villas ask drivers to stop at the top of the hill or a nearby car park. If you land at night, note that the A22 uses electronic tolls (Via Verde); with a private transfer this is handled for you, but it matters if you later rent a car. Stock up at a Lisbon or motorway stop, as some Carvoeiro rentals sit above the village with no shop within walking distance. For the Benagil caves and Marinha beach, arrive early in summer to avoid full car parks.
