The route leaves Humberto Delgado Airport on the city's northern ring, then picks up the A8 motorway heading north out of Lisbon. After passing the Loures and Malveira area, the road connects toward Mafra on the IC16/A21 corridor, then follows the N116 down to the coast. It's roughly 55 kilometres and, with light traffic, around 45 minutes; most of it is fast dual carriageway. The final stretch after Mafra is a shorter regional road through gentle inland countryside before you descend toward the sea. Once inside Ericeira, streets narrow quickly around the old town and the seafront, and parking is tight in summer, so a door drop is far easier than driving yourself.

Tell your driver which part of town you need: the old-town guesthouses near Rua Dr. Eduardo Burnay involve narrow one-way lanes, while surf camps often sit out by Ribeira d'Ilhas or Foz do Lizandro, a few minutes' drive apart. If you're arriving with boards, mention this when booking so a vehicle with roof space or a larger boot is assigned. Traffic on the A8 builds on Friday evenings and Sunday returns in summer, so allow more time then. Ericeira has no train station, and buses from Lisbon are slow with changes, which makes a direct transfer the practical way to arrive with luggage. Ask to stop in Mafra if you want to see the palace en route without a separate trip.
