Costa da Caparica is a former fishing town in Almada, on the Setúbal peninsula south of the Tagus, backed by a long, continuous stretch of Atlantic beach. In summer the Transpraia mini-train runs from the town south past Praia da Rainha, Praia do CDS and the naturist beaches towards Fonte da Telha. Lisbon residents come at weekends, surfers year-round, and families for the shallow northern beaches like Praia do Norte. The old town keeps a working fish market, seafood restaurants and a compact grid of streets near the seafront. South of town the Arriba Fóssil da Costa da Caparica cliffs form a protected reserve. It stays busy from June to September and much quieter, but still open, through winter.

The airport sits north of central Lisbon, so the transfer crosses the whole city before reaching the coast. Drivers usually take the 2ª Circular and A2 corridor to the Ponte 25 de Abril, the red suspension bridge over the Tagus, then branch onto the IC20 which runs directly into Costa da Caparica. The whole route is motorway and dual carriageway, around 28 kilometres. Off-peak it takes about 35 to 40 minutes. The variable is the bridge: on Friday afternoons, summer weekends and morning rush hour, traffic onto and across it can add significant time. From the bridge you get open views over the river and back towards Lisbon before the road drops down through Almada to the flat coastal plain.

Costa da Caparica spreads along several kilometres of coast, so give your exact address or beach access number (they run in sequence southwards from the town). If you are staying near Fonte da Telha or the southern beaches, that is a further drive down the coast road beyond the main town and worth flagging in advance. In peak summer the seafront streets close to traffic in places and parking is scarce, so a door drop-off is more useful here than in most towns. There is no direct rail line, only buses via Cacilhas or Pragal, which makes a car transfer noticeably simpler with luggage. If your flight lands during Friday evening or a summer weekend, expect bridge delays and build in extra time for any onward plans.
