The modern Thermes de Spa sits on the Colline d'Annette et Lubin above the centre and is reached by funicular from near the town hall. Others come for the Casino de Spa, one of the oldest in the world, or to fill bottles at the Pouhon Pierre le Grand spring. Motorsport fans use the town as a base for the Spa-Francorchamps circuit a short drive east, especially during the Belgian Grand Prix in summer. Walkers head for Lac de Warfaz and the Hautes Fagnes moorland. The centre is compact, with steep side streets and 19th-century bathhouse architecture around Place Royale.

Liège Airport sits at Bierset, west of the city, so the route to Spa crosses to the opposite side of the Liège area before climbing into the hills. Drivers take the motorway ring around Liège and then the E42 toward Verviers, leaving it to follow the N62 through Theux toward Spa. The first part is fast dual carriageway; the final stretch narrows into a forested, gently winding road as the land rises into the Ardennes. You'll notice the change from open valley to wooded slopes in the last fifteen minutes. The whole journey is around 45 kilometres and typically takes about 45 minutes when traffic on the Liège ring is light, longer during weekday rush hours.

The single biggest variable on this route is the Liège ring, which slows badly at morning and evening peaks; if your flight lands then, allow extra time. During Grand Prix weekends and other big Spa-Francorchamps events, roads around Francorchamps, Stavelot and Malmedy close or clog completely, so tell your driver if you're heading to the circuit rather than the town itself. Spa's town centre has narrow one-way streets and limited parking near Place Royale, so a door drop is more useful than a distant car park. If you're staying at the Thermes, note that the baths are up the hill and reached by funicular, not on foot with luggage. Ardennes weather turns quickly, so pack for rain and cooler hilltop temperatures even in summer.
